Paper Venture

Brief: A new kind of platformer where you control a little alien with a block. Make sure you don't hurt him.
Under the hood infos: The idea of this platformer came out of the frustration of all the platformer games being same. Every generic platformer games had the character to be controlled directly using keyboard keys. Just to bring a new convention to this type of genre, instead of keyboard control schema, mouse control was thought of for controlling the character. Thus, the mouse can be used in the form of a block to make the protagonist move throughout the level.
However, the main question was how to exactly make the character move. The solution was why not make it move automatically while players can control the direction using the blocks. Then the idea of changing the direction of movement on colliding with obstacle came up. As a result, the main character control was finalized and then moved to different obstacle addition and level creation. The puzzle elements did not take much time to implement once the main game elements were finalized.
The colorless sketchbook type of art helped to create a book like environment and also reduced a ton of artwork. The background was used as a scanned copy of an actual paper. A very cute and simple backstory was also integrated to make the players feel more connected to the alien dude and why it needs to be rescued.
The game was sponsored by ArcadeArmory.com and was an instant hit when it was launched.
