Save The Dummy

|
Brief: Save The Dummy is a physics puzzler game where you are to rescue a poor soul-less dummy through the intricate situations that it has tied itself into, literally.
Under the hood infos: The idea of this game was heavily inspired by the stick figure games like Gibbets and Ragdoll Cannon. The idea was to make use of a lifeless ragdoll and to tangle it up in a variety of scenarios that it needs to save from. During the initial development time, the art-wise look of the game was meant to be kept as minimal as possible, thus the crayon style over a paper background.
The core gameplay involved a very little amount of interaction but the outcome of those interactions are required to be very impactful. Thus, I installed only mouse click mechanism where the player can only click away red colored items while the blue or any other colored items cannot be directly controlled by the players. This one-type interaction made the gameplay easy and fun and the learning curve for the player was not too steep as well. As a result, the only thing that players will need to take care is the timing of the clicks that they make.
After getting the core loop ready, the objective of the game was set up. This raised a new question: how can you actually save a tied up dummy? The result came out to be simple. Just put it down or up or wherever you can as long as the dummy is out of the screen, the level can be completed successfully. This allowed investing more time in building the puzzles and levels for the rest of the game with the small amount of additional game elements as it progresses. The physics engine of the game has been ruthlessly utilized.
Fun fact: This game earned two awards: Independent Games Festival 2013 China for Excellence in Technology and Runners-up at NASSCOM Gaming Forum 2013 India in Indie Game of the Year.
Due to its success after the release of the game, the client FlashGames247.com asked more versions of this game to be made. Thus Save The Dummy Level Pack and Save The Dummy Level Pack 2 was eventually developed and released with a special Save The Dummy Holidays edition as well.
